The Digvijay PG College is not only theleading college of Rajnandgaon district but also a cultural and historical fameof Western Chhattisgarh.Among the different department, Biotechnology is one ofyoung department of Govt. Digvijay PG College Rajnandgaon (C.G.). Theundergraduate (UG) program course (as B.Sc. in Biotechnology) was started from2004 and the Postgraduate (PG) program (as M.Sc. in Biotechnology) was startedfrom 2013-14. Research centre for the doing of Ph.D. is started from 2021. Thefour-year UG program FYUG Hon./ Hon. With Research is started from 2022. Thetotal seats for FYUG program are 60, PG program is 40 while 08 seats (04 perresearch supervisor) for doing of Ph.D. 

The department having separate spacefor UG and PG classroom, UG and PG laboratory and Plant Tissue culturelaboratory. The department has existed as separate department from 2013-14 withone Regular faculty, three full time guest faculties. The sanctioned post offaculties is two in which one post is still vacant. The Department having PCR,Gel electrophoresis, Centrifugation, Chromatography analysis (TLC, Column),Binocular Compound Microscope, Cooling Incubator, while student also benefitedfrom the CV Raman central laboratory of the college having AAS, Uv-VisibleSpectrophotometer, ELISA reader, Gel Doc etc.

Apart from regular teaching, powerpoint, group discussion, invited lecture, outdoor activity, debate, games, studytour, seminar, like other method also uses to enhance the engagement ofstudents. Celebration of important days, health and sanitation, social harmony,plantation, activity based on gender equality, skill enhancement, can also bedone. Statistics and Bioinformatics based practical’s can also be performed inthe electronic tools. 06 CSIR-NET JRF/LH, 12 SET has been qualified from thestudents of department. Alumni of the department are serving in highereducation, school teaching, health, defence and other services while some areengaged in sports, agriculture and entrepreneur.

In the field of research department hascompleted 04 research project (01 from UGC), wrote 11 books, 25 researchpapers, 26 book chapters and 03 patents. The books published belongs toprestigious American Chemical Society (ACS), Tylor and Fransis Group andDe-Gruyter. Department has organized one international conference in 6-8February 2023. Faculties and student also participate in conferences organizedat national and international levels.
